09 September 2011 | Australië, Geraldton
It has been awhile since our last travel update. No internet along the way but we are now in Geraldton in the local public library with free internet so here we go.
We picked up the camper on sunday 4th sept.and started our trip down south. The camper is a very old one with 212075kms on the clock. The drive went very smoothly and I was very surprised to feel very comfortable about driving on the wrong side of the road. Aad didn't need to say KEEP LEFT too many times. The first overnight stop was in Bunbury and we found a nice illegal camping spot behind a restaurant near a park with public toilets on our camper step. Next day after an almost 12 hour sleep we drove to Busselton, saw the jetty and walked the almost 1900meters of it. I was very keen to visit this jetty as I had seen it on Australian master chef. It was a magnificient jetty, very impressive, along the way there were memorial plaques of fisherman who had their ashes thown out to sea from the jetty. Hope that that was done on wind free days otherwise you would have got the ashes in your face. YUK. From the jetty we drove down further south to Margaret River where we spent the night in the caravan park, lovely hot showers and spent some good time in getting our camper organised, not much room to put your things but it works okay for us.
Next day and a freezing nights sleep (5 degrees) we went into the village of Margaret River, and walked a trail, but the bad signposting along the way made the walk a little longer than we planned. Drove to Ellensbrook Homestead one of the first pioneers of Oz lived there with his family. Beautiful old historic spot, lovely walks, the first wildflowers and beautiful flowering trees. From there we could dee the ocean so next stop was there of course. As I saw the sea I got a bit emotional, this was the smell and sights of my australia. The beautiful sea, huge crashing waves, and crystal clear water.
On to Dunsborough, walk to the lighthouse, saw the whales and a kangaroo in the bushes. Overnight there.
Will finish this story another day my hour is up. Will try again tomorrow . J&A

Rie En Jan:
